Some 5,340 meals has been collected by Lions Club and Tesco volunteers in Tesco stores in Mayo during a two-day Christmas food appeal.

Tesco Castlebar has shared its third donation of €1,000 among three local good causes as part of the Tesco Community Fund initiative, which will see €1 million donated annually to good causes across Ireland. Voted for by Tesco Castlebar customers, the three charities and organisations to receive their share of the fund are The Irish Wheelchair Association – Castlebar, Mayo Rape Crisis Centre, and Mayo Volunteer Centre.

Tesco stores across Mayo have this week donated €1,000 each to their nominated local good causes as part of the Tesco Community Fund initiative, which will see €1 million donated annually to good causes across Ireland. Voted for by customers, 18 good causes across Mayo received their share of their local Tesco stores’ €1,000 community fund.

Tesco Ireland has announced that it has raised €2million for Aware through the fundraising efforts of Tesco’s employees and customers throughout the country and more than €81,000 was raised by Tesco stores in Mayo. The announcement marks the end of Tesco’s two-year Charity of the Year partnership with Aware which ran from 2012 to 2014, as selected by the company’s 15,000 employees.

Tesco Ireland has announced the launch of an exciting initiative, Tesco Community Fund, which will see €1million donated annually to local good causes throughout Ireland. TV presenter, Kathryn Thomas, met with the store managers from Mayo recently, to support the launch of the initiative and is calling on all local good causes in Mayo to get involved. Every six weeks, each Tesco store in Mayo will donate up to €1,000 (€500 in smaller stores) between three local good causes in its local community. Customers will decide how the funding is shared by voting for their preferred cause in store. From this week on, every time customers shop in any Tesco store in Mayo, they will receive a token of goodwill to place in the donation box of the local good cause they would most like to support. Every six weeks, the number of tokens is counted and up to €1,000 is distributed proportionally between three local good causes. The more tokens a local good cause gets the larger share of the donation they will receive.

Jimmy Cullen, who works in Tesco Ballina, has been named the winner of the Service Superstar category of the 2014 Tesco Ireland Values Awards, it has been announced. This is the third year of the Tesco Ireland Values Awards, which took place at a special ceremony in the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel in Dublin on Wednesday, July 2. The awards recognise excellence amongst Tesco staff and employees are nominated by colleagues in 10 different categories for their notable contributions to communities across Ireland.
